As more and more people lose their jobs due to the pandemic, the Canadian government instituted policies that could alleviate the struggles of Canadian citizens. With this, they have expanded Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit. David Rotfleisch, a tax lawyer with Rotfleisch & Samulovitch P.C. in Toronto, provided some insights about how it can improve the lives of its beneficiaries.
“It is important to note that if you were self-employed before the lockdown, this does not disqualify you from the expanded Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit. It is important to note that the requirement that you must earn at least $5,000 in 2020, 2021, or in the 12 months leading up to the day you apply for the benefit is more stringent than it appears,” said Rotfleisch.
